You may be eligible for compensation for violation if you have been the victim of a criminal offense that involved a particularly violent attack on another person or their freedom, and you cannot receive compensation for suffering under the other rules.
It is usually a condition that the wrongdoer's criminal offense justifies a sentence of approximately one year in prison, and that as the victim, you have sustained serious harm as a result of the criminal offense.
The amount of compensation is determined based on the circumstances of the case.
Circumstances may include, for example, very severe violence that has gone on for an extended period, or if the wrongdoer used weapons during the criminal offense. Other examples may include serious cases of home robbery and attempted murder.
The rule is found in section 26 of the Liability and Compensation Act.
