The Ministry of Justice, Department of Civil Affairs

About us

We conduct legal case processing with a citizen-centred approach

At the Danish Civil Affairs Agency, we handle both individual cases and broader legal matters, and we provide secretariat services to boards and councils within the field of civil law under the Ministry of Justice. We also ensure public access to Denmark’s legislation and regulations.

Our organisation comprises four specialist departments and a cross-functional administrative support unit.

We employ approximately 170 staff members, including lawyers, administrative officers, project managers, communications professionals, and financial controllers.

Our core responsibilities primarily involve legal casework, including matters related to foundations, legal aid, lawyer appointments, and the acquisition of real property by foreign nationals.

A key task for us is also to provide secretariat services to the Criminal Injuries Compensation Board, the Medico-Legal Council, the Council of the Danish Victims Fund, and the Danish Fundraising Board. In addition, the Department of Civil Affairs is also responsible for publishing the official electronic legal gazettes, Lovtidende and Statstidende, and for operating the legal information website, Retsinformation.dk.
