How do you find out if you need permission to buy real property?

If you do not have residence in Denmark according to the Acquisition of Property Act, or if you have not had residence in Denmark for at least 5 years, you must generally apply to the Department of Civil Affairs for permission.

If you have submitted an application to the Department of Civil Affairs and it turns out that you do not need permission, the Department of Civil Affairs will close the case and refer you to the Land Registration Court. It is then the Land Registration Court that makes the final decision on whether you can buy real property without the Department of Civil Affairs' permission.

Land registration is the public recording, verification, and publication of property rights. When you register your ownership of the property, the Land Registration Court will make the final decision on whether you need the Department of Civil Affairs' permission to buy real property. If you believe you meet the conditions to buy real property without the Department of Civil Affairs’ permission, you must therefore submit a declaration directly to the Land Registration Court.
