The most important factor is whether you have spent a significant part of your vacations in Denmark over a prolonged period of time. For example, if you have spent at least one week of vacation in Denmark every year for the past 25 years, you will generally have particularly strong ties with Denmark.
However, there are other factors that the Department of Civil Affairs will consider, such as:
- your family ties to Denmark
- your linguistic or cultural ties to Denmark, or
- your connection to the specific property you wish to buy.
It is not possible to obtain a general permission to buy a non-permanent dwelling. However, you can receive a pre-approval from the Department of Civil Affairs if you have strong enough ties to be eligible for permission to buy a non-permanent dwelling. Once you have found the specific property you wish to purchase, you must notify the Department of Civil Affairs, which will then issue the final permission. The pre-approval is valid for 3 years.
A permission to buy a non-permanent dwelling can be changed to another non-permanent dwelling within 3 years from the decision date.
